The other day while sipping a cup of coffee I decided to crosscheck on the weight of the coffee sachet I had on my table. It was written 2grames. I thought of a price of a kilograme of coffee which is roughly 1000 CFA a kilo.
One kilo of coffee is equal to 1000grames therefore one kilo of coffee produces 500 sachets of ready to drink sachets of coffee. 500 sachets of coffee x 50 frs the price of 2grames of coffee I drank for breakfast this morning gives you 25000CFA.
So a kilo of coffee bought from an african farmer is manufactured and resold to Africans for 25000frs. net profit after deducting cost of manufactur, sale and distribution cost etc should be at least 15000 per kilo.percentage profit is 1500% this is fabulous too un catholic.
60 years after indipendence ,our population is still growing crops , the yield per hectare reducing ,everyyear ,Africans are getting poorer and poorer .Our children are dying everyday trying to cross the mediterian ocean .every year yet our leaders are still to create an enabling environnement for Africans to add value to her raw materials.
When cocoa prices plumeted this year multinationals were very happy as they thought of an enormous increase in their margin of profit on chocolate.
Where are our business men ? Where are the Dangotes, the Muketes, the Fokams to sponsor reseach and creat industries to add value to our sweat. Our Political leaders need to do something as a matter of urgency .Little drops of misery pilling on us every year will sooner or latter spil over.
God bless Africa
